New Market – Last evening as the hands of the clock pointed to the hour of 7, the spirit of Mrs. Annie Long was taken and this morning at 10 a.m.

Mrs. Long was a native of North Carolina; but with the exception of four years she has lived here since the winter of 1882. In December 1883, Samuel Long, husband of the deceased, died, leaving her with two sons and one step-son, G. W. Long, with whom she has made her home ever since.

For the past two years, Samuel Long, Mrs. Long's youngest son, has been studying electricity in Baltimore and has not seen his mother in that time, and William Long is practicing law in Greenville, N C. Both of them have been apprised of the sad news of their mother’s death, but it is feared that neither one will get here in time for the funeral services at 4 o'clock this afternoon. She had for more than thirty years been a member of the Methodist Church and by her life proved her faith in and loyalty to her religion she professed. The funeral will be held at the M. E. Church and will be conducted by Rev. Mr. Eakin. The body will be placed in the M. E. church cemetery, by the side of her husband.
