Died in Jefferson county on the 23rd of August last, Alfred J Woods. He was one of the deputy Marshalls of that county and was out on the duties of his office when taken with a Fever and lived but a few days; though he was permitted to reach home to receive the tender embraces and attention of his family.

He became a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in his 22nd year and was some time after called to act as an Elder, which honored office in the house of his Master, he filled with Christian zeal till the close of his life.

Shortly after he was confined to his bed, he expressed a belief that he was not long to be deprived of the enjoyment of Heaven. In his last moments he maintained the most perfect resignation and often expressed his entire submission to the divine will. His last hours were full of instruction and encouragement both to the youthful and the aged Christian.

Mr. Woods had but few enemies except those who imagined he differed with them in politics. He was a tender husband, a kind father and devoted friend. He has left a wife and five small children with numerous connections who will long and sincerely mourn the separation, but not as they that have no hopeā€¦.
