The death of Mrs. Jane McDaniel which occurred Wednesday morning was not unexpected, as she was very old and had been ill for several days.

Mrs. McDaniel was the widow of Lewis McDaniel, who was among the first settlers on Mossy Creek and among the first merchants here, having established his business about 1840 and together with a large farm he secured a good competence and at his death a few years ago left several thousand dollars to his widow. How she had disposed of this property is unknown as her will has not yet been made public.
