Major Richard C. Jackson, one of the oldest and most prominent citizens of Knox County, died at his residence on the Jacksboro pike yesterday morning at about 5 o'clock.
He arose in the morning and was about to take a bath. He fell without warning and in a few moments expired. The news soon reached the city and was a great shock to his many friends here, where he was so universally loved and respected.
Major Jackson was born in this county on the 27th day of September, 1809 and when a small boy his father, Capt. Joseph Jackson, became a citizen of Knoxville, after which he successfully engaged in mercantile business at Athens, Tenn.
In 1845 he was married to Miss Julia Brazelton, a daughter of Gen. William Brazelton, who lived at New Market.
