New Market, January 20 - The many friends of Capt. Ed H Smith, will be both surprised and shocked to hear of his death which occurred at the residence of Mrs. E G McCorkle last night a little before 9 o'clock. Capt. Smith was sick only a short time a little more than a week and none of his relatives, except Mr. Will Jarnigan of Morristown were with him. The funeral services will take place tomorrow or the day following and the remains laid to rest in the Presbyterian cemetery. Capt. Smith was well known and had friends all over the country who will be grieved to learn of his death.
