Written by Leota Bennett, a descendant of the families mentioned in this article.

Mary "Polly" Graham (born June 10, 1783, died August 14, 1857) was born in Virginia and migrated to the Oak Grove area near Dandridge about 1886-87 [sic] with her family, including her parents, George and Elizabeth Turnley Graham; at least one sibling, William Graham; her grandparents, John and Mary (Handy) Turnley; her great-grandmother, the mother of Mary Handy; her uncle, George Turnley. The Winton, Denton, Cunningham families, and others migrated to the French Broad Settlement near present day Dandridge, Tenn. about the same time.

She married John Sehorn/Seahorn, Jr., about 1801 near present day Dandridge, TN. John Sehorn/Seahorn/Zehorn, SR and his family moved to the French Broad area in the early 1780's at the encouragement of his friend, John Sevier, later Governor of the State of Franklin and the State of Tennessee .

Mary "Polly" Graham and John Sehorn, Jr., moved to Standing Stone, TN by 1801. A Tax record exists for the land where the inn they operated stood as well as a militia appointment by Gov. William Blount for John Sehorn in the same area in 1801. In October, 1809, John Sehorn, Jr., died. Mary "Polly" continued to operate the inn and rear their five children.

About 1811-1812 Mary "Polly" Graham Sehorn married a Benjamin Walker, Jr. They had seven additional children. About 1852 or 1853 the family, with the exception of a few children, moved to the Carroll County, Arkansas, area. Both ary "Polly" Graham Sehorn/Seahorn and her husband Benjamin Walker, Jr., died in Carroll County, Arkansas, before 1860. Their youngest son, Andrew, Jackson Walker, Sr., married Clementine Verble and remained at Standing Stone, now Monterey, Putnam County, Tenn. One of their fourteen (14) children was Joseph Beauregard Walker (born 1861 - died 1946). The following obituary is for his daughter, Ruth Walker Gates. She was the oldest known descendant of Mary "Polly" Graham Sehorn Walker.

RUTH GATES, age 99, of Celina, died June 20, 2000.  Mrs. Gates was born June 15, 1901, in Celina to Joe B. WALKER and Ollie MARTIN.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Hayden Richard GATES.  She was a lifelong resident of Clay Co.  Interment was in the Fitzgerald Cemetery.

I hope this helps preserve our heritage.
