Early penitentiary records are kept by the State in Nashville. The State of Tennessee has a detailed explanation of penitentiary records on its Web site. TSLA offers limited look-up services by mail for a fee. Click here for details.

A list of inmates for the years 1831-1850 is available on-line at the TSLA Web site. Jefferson County inmates are listed on this Web site. Click here to view the list.
