Second Methodist Parsonage

A Few Facts About the Parsonage of the Jefferson City Parish

This building was begun in November, 1940, and was completed May 29, 1941. In eleven months and twelve days after its completion, the debt was paid in full.

The building consists of five rooms, bath; an enclosed back porch, and a full-sized basement. Its cost was three thousand dollars.

Those serving on the Building Committee were Willis Frazier, Floyd Lindsay, and William Carter, of Jefferson City; Edwin Walker, of Mount Pleasant; Mayse Underwood, of Oakland, and Rev. W. M. Bull, of Cedar Grove.

The building fund was raised by pledges and donations from members and friends of the Jefferson City Parish.

The pastor and committee are grateful to the Rev. M. A. Stevenson, our District Superintendent, for his assistance in this achievement. Also to everyone who contributed money or service in anyway, we say "Thank You!"

Order For the Dedication

Minister:  Peace be to this house.

Dearly Beloved, members and friends of this household, it is written that, "Except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build." We have, therefore, met here to invoke the Divine blessing on this home, that its ties of love may be strong and beautiful through the blessing and the inspiration of the Heavenly Father.

Hymn No. 57 - Take Time to Be Holy

Prayer.

Dedication

Minister:  In the Name of the Father, and the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, we dedicate this home to the glory of God, committing to His loving care this house and all who dwell in it.

Response:  Have Thou respect unto the prayer of Thy servant, O Lord, my God, which Thy servant prayeth before Thee this day; that Thine eyes may be open toward this house night and day.

Minister:  We dedicate this home to the deep affections of the family circle, and to all friendly hospitalities.

Response:  Now God Himself, and our Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ make you to increase and abound in love.

Minister:  We dedicate this home to the courage, patience, and self-control which make life cheerful and serene.

Response:  Let patience have here perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

Minister:  We dedicate this home to all beautiful things of heart and mind that lead the soul to wider vision and higher aims.

Response:  "Whene'er a noble deed is wrought, Whene'er is spoken a noble thought, Our hearts in glad surprise To higher levels rise."

Minister:  We dedicate this home to happiness, to hopefulness, and to health, that it may ever be, to those whose home it is, a dear haven of peace and joy.

Response:  "Serene will be our days and bright, And happy will our nature be, When love is an unerring light, And joy its own security."

Hymn No. 206 - I Will Sing You A Song

Minister:  The Lord bless us and keep us, the Lord cause His face to shine upon us and, be gracious unto us, the Lord lift up the light and His countenance upon us, and give us peace, now and for evermore. Amen.
