Original record - identification: UTK-MS-0259: William Doherty, James Doherty, and S. Johnson Ledger, 1796 September 1-1803 February 8, 1870-1881 November 20. The original item may be viewed at UTK's Special Collections reading room, but visitors need to request it at least 24 hours in advance using the form at http://www.lib.utk.edu/special/services/request.html. Store Account Book of Sevier County

These data were copied from the original in the Special Collections Room, University of Tennessee Library, Knoxville, Tennessee, by Mrs. James O. Maddux of Spring City, Tennessee. Mrs. Maddux notes that she copied only the date of the first entry and the names included with the entry. The page number in the left column is that of the original entry. Only unusual purchases are shown. Most of the accounts were listed as Sundrys, whisky, shoes, cloth, etc. It appears the book was used between 1796 and 1801. In 1874, a later owner used the bottom of the pages for accounts, but these were not copied. He also gave a list of his property in Jefferson County, made some drawings of the devil, and recorded a recipe for making manure and a cure for distemper.

Notes in the back of the book:

Married Thomas Founbust to Miss Saly Beverly the 20 March 1800.
Mrs. S. Johnson - Alabama, Bellfonte - Jackson County (nothing else).
Cinty Maddox commenced work on 31 May 1875.

Name on fly sheet: William Doherty - October 15, 1795.
