The WPA prepared a compilation of Jefferson County tombstone inscriptions in the 1930's. Records of burials relocated when the Tennessee Valley Authority closed Douglas and Cherokee Dams are available from TVA. Published lists are on file at the McClung Collection in Knoxville. Individual cemetery transcriptions have been published or are on file at various repositories. Details regarding those are in Guide to Genealogical and Historical Research in Jefferson County, Tennessee, published in 1995 by Billie R. McNamara. David Templin and Cherel Henderson began a comprehensive project to identify and transcribe every known cemetery in Jefferson County in the early 1980's. Three volumes of cemetery transcriptions, Stories in Stone, have been published. The first two volumes are out-of-print; the third volume is available from the Jefferson County Genealogical Society.
