Mrs. Mary E. Gammon, relict of Nathan Gammon, died at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon at the residence of her son, George A. Gammon, on Scott Street. She was in the ninetieth year of her age.

Mrs. Gammon was a daughter of the late Joseph Hamilton of Jefferson County and was born on January 2, 1806. In her early life she joined the Presbyterian Church, St. Paul's in Jefferson County, whose house of worship was built by her father.

In 1824 she was united in marriage to Nathan Gammon of Jonesboro. To them six children were born, three sons and three daughters of whom three, Mrs. Blair of Asheville, N C, and George A. and Miss Jennie Gammon, of this city, survive.

In 1851, Mrs. Gammon and her family came to Knoxville and this has been her home since. Her husband died in June, 1869. Her life was spent in good thoughts, good words and good deeds. The heart of her husband who preceded her to the great beyond many years ago, safely trusted in her and he found in her a helpmate in deed and in truth. Strength and honor were her clothing. The young as well as the old rejoiced in the pleasure of her association and will regret that time for her is no more. After a long life of ceaseless activity she goes to her rest, leaving behind her a large circle of friends who will not ceased to be charmed with the fragrance of her memory.

The funeral services will be held at the residence of her son, Monday evening at 2 o'clock. Interment in old Gray Cemetery.
