Obituary of John Patty PDF Print E-mail

Died on the first day of September, 1843, at his son William’s residence, Panther Springs, Jefferson county, Tenn., John Patty, in the 88th year of his age, after an illness of some ten days with the influenza so prevalent in East Tennessee.

The subject of this notice entered the U S service in the war with Great Britain in his 19th year, was taken prisoner at Charleston, S C., continued in the service up to the close of the war.

This venerable patriot and soldier was ever an exemplary man for strict morality; but with this alone he was not satisfied, feeling that something more was necessary to die with, some four year since he sought for and obtained that religion with which he so happily died. Let it be a source of great consolation to his many friends who feel the mighty vacuum occasioned by his removal from among us, that through his familiar voice is no more heard in this land of sorrow and death there remains not a doubt that his soul is safely housed in Heaven.Source: Knoxville Register, September 20, 1843
