Albert Whitaker was instantly killed by a boiler explosion on his father's farm near Friends Station, in Jefferson County, Monday.

The particulars are not known, but he had been running a steam sawmill and for some reason the boiler exploded, resulting in his instant death.

He was a young man in the 22nd year of his age, the eldest son of Hon. H. C. Whitaker, commander of the Department of Tennessee, Grand Army of the Republic. He is spoken of as having been a young man of much promise, the pride of his greatly bereaved parents, brothers and sisters. He was highly respected and esteemed by those who knew him as a self reliant young man of noble impulses and ambitions.

His parents and relatives will have the sincere sympathy of a large circle of friends.
