There is a scene of gloom at the White House today, occasioned by the death of Miss Pauline Mitchell which occurred at 3 o'clock this morning after a long spell of feeble health. Miss Mitchell was the age aunt of Mrs. Hughes, the efficient proprietress of the White House. Miss Mitchell was 75 years of age at the time of her death, and was known to many in East Tennessee. The remains will be sent to New Market this afternoon for interment. Source: The Knoxville Sentinel, Wednesday, October 18, 1893 Transcribed by Robert McGinnis |
