James A. Gass, Sr., died at his home in Dandridge, Tenn., on the evening of July 6th, 1893, after an illness of several weeks, aged seventy-four years, nine months and two days. He leaves surviving him none of his immediate family, except two sons – J. A. Gass, Jr., and J. B. Gass – all others having preceded him by several years to the "Spirit Land." Father Gass had for many years lived an exemplary Christian life – an active member of the M. E. Church, South – and departed leaving to his kindred and friends every possible assurance that he was called to receive his reward Source: The Knoxville Tribune, Wednesday, July 12, 1893 Transcribed by Robert McGinnis |
