One of Jefferson County's most noted citizens, Mr. Temple Harris, died at his home in Dandridge yesterday morning. Mr. Harris was about 68 years of age and leaves a family of three boys and four girls. Mr. Hall Harris of the State National Bank of this city, is one of his sons. Mr. Harris was a retired merchant having been eminently successful in business affairs through a long period of years. He was however naturally an unobtrusive, modest man and his character was never affected by his unusual possession of worldly goods. He never held public office or was known to hold political aspirations although he had the full confidence and esteem of everybody. He nevertheless exercised a vast influence in public affairs and was noted as a advisory man as nothing in the line of public business was ever consummated without seeking Mr. Harris' opinion in the matter. He was a devout member of the Baptist Church and always took an active interest in church affairs. He was also one of the main supporters and promoters of the interests of the Mossy Creek College and none will miss him more than this institution. He has a large number of friends and acquaintances who are shocked to learn of his death.
